The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) is gathering feedback on the real-world impact of updating the 4.25t van rules, and says every response will help shape the consultation.
It says the transition to zero-emission vans is creating considerable challenges for operators, who are struggling with inflexible regulations, high costs, and inaccessible infrastructure.
One key barrier is the current weight limit restrictions on zero-emission vans, which make it harder for businesses to switch from diesel models without operational challenges.
The Association says that without regulatory flexibility, fleets risk higher costs, inefficiencies, and delays in adopting cleaner vehicles.
The Government is now consulting on making the changes the BVRLA and the Zero Emission Van Plan coalition have been calling for. Strong industry support is needed to ensure it acts.
The Zero Emission Van Plan itself is now a year old. It was launched by a team led by the BVRLA with Logistics UK, Recharge UK, the Association of Fleet Professionals (AFP) and The EV Café to push for changes that would support the transition to zero-emission vans. They include:
- increased fiscal support
- improved charging
- removal of regulatory barriers
The BVRLA says there is now a crucial opportunity to influence the Government’s decision by providing clear evidence of the benefits these flexibilities would bring.
