5 Minutes With… Joe Williams, COO and Co-founder of Exeros

With rising costs, growing compliance pressures and rapid advances in AI, fleet operators are navigating an increasingly complex landscape. We caught up with Joe Williams, COO and Co-founder of Exeros, to discuss the challenges facing the sector, the growing role of video telematics, and the technologies set to shape fleet management in the years ahead.

Tell us about your company, products and services.

So, Exeros is a video telematics and camera system provider. Basically, it’s a software platform that connects to a range of vehicle-mounted cameras, helping fleets reduce risk, cut costs, and ensure compliance.

What have been the biggest challenges the Fleet Services industry has faced over the past 12 months?

Rising costs. Fleets are being squeezed on every front, making it hard to find funds for new solutions even if the ROI is clear. On our side, rising hardware and cloud costs are eating our margins.

And what have been the biggest opportunities?

AI is the obvious answer, but I’ll say helping fleets start small with video telematics and then scale by reinvesting the savings.

What is the biggest priority for the Fleet Services industry right now?

Helping UK fleets get back on the front foot.

What are the main trends you are expecting to see in the market next year?

Hopefully a recovery from this year’s setbacks. And with AI infusing technology, we’ll see a lot safer and more efficient fleets from now on.

What technology is going to have the biggest impact on the market this year?

AI-powered video telematics. It’s the evolution of telematics, with video data on top of all the other intelligence. It won’t be long until it’s a central part of every UK fleet operation.

Next year we’ll all be talking about?

Video telematics driver apps.

Which person in, or associated with, the Fleet Services industry would you most like to meet?

Steve Banner. I read a lot of his articles.

What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learnt about the Fleet Services sector?

How well UK-native companies are doing despite all the competition from US corporations and the like.

You go to the bar at the Fleet Services Management Summit – what’s your tipple of choice?

Oh, I’m a simple lager man.

What’s the most exciting thing about your job?

Big projects.

And what’s the most challenging?

Big projects.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Hire your own engineers.

Peaky Blinders or The Crown?

In the bleak midwinter…
