What have been the biggest challenges the Fleet Services industry has faced over the past 12 months?

The last 12 months has seen huge evolution! One of the biggest challenge has really been managing the transition to electric whilst also managing existing petrol and diesel vehicles. It’s a lot of moving parts, but it’s been incredible to see how fleet managers are exploring new innovations and figuring out the best blueprint for their goals.

And what have been the biggest opportunities?

We’re seeing businesses come to the realisation they can move away from complex, legacy “black box” systems and embrace a future built on total transparency. There’s a huge opportunity right now to simplify everything and using tech like Electroverse and smart home reimbursement to make life better for drivers and way more efficient for the bottom line.

What is the biggest priority for the Fleet Services industry right now?

Putting the driver back at the heart of the journey. Whether they’re charging at home, on the road, or just grabbing a coffee between appointments, a big priority for us is making their experience seamless. When the tech is easy to use, the transition to electric feels more effortless and exciting!

What are the main trends you are expecting to see in the market next year?

Transparency. For too long, fleet costs have been buried in confusing invoices and hidden fees. We’re here to empower fleet managers not only in their fleet electrification journey but also managing their bottom line and unlocking savings they previously couldn’t.

What technology is going to have the biggest impact on the market this year?

Smart, unified payment tech. Tools like our Visa-backed Fleet Card are bridging the gap. Technology that can empower managers to handle their existing fuel needs alongside their EV charging needs in one single place. This technology that creates a single source of truth for fleet spending with built in control helps to make fleet managers day to day a breeze.

Next year we’ll all be talking about…?

Charging freedom. With over 1.4 million chargers on the Electroverse network and the ability to reimburse home charging on any tariff, the “where do I plug in?” conversation is being replaced by “look how easy this is!” It’s a really exciting prospect for fleets in their journey to electric.

What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learnt about the Fleet Services sector?

Just how much room there is for positive disruption! Coming from the Octopus Energy family, we were thrilled to find a sector so full of people ready for a fresh approach to fleet elecrtrifcation. 

You go to the bar at the Fleet Services Management Summit – what’s your tipple of choice?

Maybe it’s cliche, but a Kraken Rum and tonic. We’re sold on anything remotely Octopus related!
